Mapping Tool
The Mapping tools are designed to help you examine weather and growing
conditions. If the mapping tool does not launch in a separate browser,
please verify that your Pop-up Blocker is temporarily disabled and try the link
above again.
A description of provided data layers is included below.
Weather Data
Maximum Temperature: The greatest temperature recorded in a 24-hour period.
Minimum Temperature: The lowest temperature recorded in a 24-hour period.
Precipitation: Water released from clouds in the form of rain, freezing rain,
sleet, snow, or hail that is deposited on the Earth's surface.
Solar radiation: A measure of sunlight reaching the earth’s surface.
Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD): The difference (deficit) between the amount of
moisture in the air and how much moisture the air can hold when it is saturated
at a particular temperature.
Vegetation Data
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI): An index that measures and
monitors plant growth (vigor), vegetation cover, and biomass production. It
ranges from -1.0 to 1.0 and increasing positive values indicate increasing
amounts of green, healthy vegetation. Values near zero and decreasing negative
indicate non-vegetated features such as barren surfaces (rock and soil) and
water, snow, ice, and clouds.
Enhanced Vegetation Index: The Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) is another index
to measure and monitor plant growth (vigor), vegetation cover, and biomass
production. It also ranges from -1.0 to 1.0 and increasing positive values
indicate increasing amounts of green, healthy vegetation. It is enhanced over
NDVI in that it has greater sensitivity for high biomass.
Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (absorbed by vegetation) (FPAR):
A measurement of the proportion of available radiation (sunlight) in
photosynthetically active wavelengths that vegetation can absorb.
Leaf Area Index: The one-sided leaf area per unit ground area that helps define
the structural property of a plant canopy.
Gross Primary Productivity (GPP): The total energy fixed by plants via
photosynthesis in a vegetation community.
